Do good with your phone tax rebate!

A note especially for my U.S. Joyful Business Owner friends who are working on your taxes this time of year:

One of my clients, Mary Gorham, is a very wonderful coach for social entrepreneurs,  and it's no accident that she is married to a social entrepreneur herself! Her husband, Jon Gorham (and his partners) have just launched an amazing website called www.RefundsforGood.org that you should check out as soon as you can before you turn in your taxes. It turns out we are all entitled to a refund on a phone tax we have been paying. This website tells you how you can claim it (and gives you some interesting history as to why we had this tax to begin with - apparently it has funded our war efforts for decades. Hmmm, I had no idea.

This website, and his passionate project, also shows you how you can donate this new "found" money to a couple extraordinary nonprofits that are working on peace and sustainable development efforts. The net effect: we can all do something really worthwhile without it breaking our budgets. So check out the website and see what you think. As you do, you'll also have fun seeing some very familiar faces (like Martin Sheen and Ed Begley, Jr.) who are endorsing their work.

I know I look for opportunities to donate and have gotten a bit skeptical about non-profits. I like how this helps me find some places to put my charitable donations and feel confident about the good work they are doing in the world.

Just wanted to post a quick share:

Microsoft Small Business Center is sponsoring a Small Business Summit.  Coming up on March 19 - 23. It's free and it's virtual.  They'll have Guy Kawasaki, author and venture capitalist, Julie Clark, founder of Baby Einstein (before she sold to Disney!), the Sloan brothers, Rich and Jeff, Creators of StartupNation.com and Hosts of StartupNation Radio and lots of experts on a variety of small business topics.

I would attend except for I'm going to be exploring Switzerland! My hubby has a project there and I am going to visit for a week and explore while he's working. I'm going to Basel which is a city right on the border of Switzerland, France and Germany. I'll give new meaning to 3 countries in 3 days!  I'm so excited!
